Farewell to the Wildlife Content Wonder Woman

And … What is the Olympic Mascot?

This Week …

  1. Summer Shorts: Bidding Adieu to the Voice of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Social Media Channels

  2. Before We Go …

1. Saying Farewell to Sarah Southerland and Her Clever Wildlife Tweets

If someone can make me — a non-hunting, vegetarian who isn’t from Oklahoma — along with 260K people care about the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s social media channels, well then, you have talent. But it’s more than just good information, the X and TikTok social media accounts are pure edutainment.

So we must bid farewell to Social Media Coordinator Sarah Southerland, the incredible voice and award-winning content strategist behind one of The EO Report’s favorite social media channels: @OKWildlifeDept.

Southerland announced her departure on X late last week with a thread with some best-of highlights. For more witty content, BoredPanda highlights 40 posts.

What are some of her secrets to exponentially grow the accounts and gain national exposure for her organization and her mission? These souces have some of the details:

Southerland’s content feels like a friend who is doing good things for us and Mother Earth. We can’t find details on her next adventure. We hope it’s wild and also public facing, so we get to see more of her content!

2. Before We Go…

Are you ready for the Summer Olympics Event Trivia?

July is here, and we are counting the days to the “world’s foremost multi-sports event.” Here are some facts on branding and the event:

MASCOT

The Paris 2024 Olympic Mascot is a … Phryge! (Say what?)

“A Phryge is based on the traditional small Phrygian hats that the mascots are shaped after. The name and design were chosen as symbols of freedom and to represent allegorical figures of the French republic.”

EVENT HISTORICAL FIRSTS

The Opening Ceremony will start on Friday, July 26, at 7.30 p.m. Paris time, 1:30pm Eastern Time. The event will have two historic firsts:

  • For the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium.

  • The parade of athletes will be held on the Seine River with boats for each national delegation.

Here is the Press Page to see what materials and collateral the Olympics staff are sharing.
